Whidbey Island

Rick and I had a fabulous day on Saturday.  We’d been wanting to take a day and drive over to the islands and just see where the wind would take us.  First we stopped at Camano Island where Rick helped his dad with a home repair project.  His mom and I went down to Cama Beach State Park with our cameras.

After a quick lunch with Mom and Dad, we headed to the ferry. img_4909
I’ve never been to Whidbey Island, except once or twice in high school for youth group retreats at Camp Casey. Why we traveled all the way to Camp Casey for a weekend retreat, I’ll never know, but that’s the only visual I’ve ever had of Whidbey. I was so pleasantly surprised to find so many beautiful views, quaint little towns, and lovely wineries all over the island. Rick has several clients there and has learned his way around quite well, so we had no trouble finding where we wanted to go. And one place we wanted to go right away was Useless Bay Coffee Roasters!

From here we mosied around Langley poking around the little shops and just enjoying the sunshine and each other’s company. We wandered into this adorable little inn/B&B overlooking the water, and asked if we could see a room. This is a very near future destination for a weekend getaway for Rick and I!

Plus, I’m pretty sure Bob Newhart works here. (If you’re too young to get that, never mind)

Here we did a wine tasting and enjoyed the stories and photos of the vineyard there.

I had a hard time letting go of all the things we SHOULD be doing, but by the end of the day, I realized that we really needed a day like this together. A day to remind us that we really like each other and love spending an entire day, no an entire lifetime just meandering and chatting and laughing and enjoying the warmth.
