Tonight we had a lovely evening at the home of Abby’s parents, Josh’s future in-laws.
We sat at the table and chatted and played cards for several hours and talked about all sorts of things, our backgrounds, how we all met our spouses, work, ministry…at one point in the evening before the cards came out I was aware that Josh seemed a little bored. Right about then Lyle, Abby’s Dad, who was sitting next to Josh reached over and gave Josh’s forearm a squeeze and smiled at him.
A very small gesture. Insignificant, really. A nothing moment.
And yet, in that little act, the man who will be my son’s other dad showed me that he will care for him. As if he were his own.
What more could we ask of the families our kids marry into?
